Of course calling exec on a compiler (or part thereof) would be a no-no.

How about this ? You write a piece of code which has more than 5 functions and you write it in C. Do not run it or check it. Then you write a proper piece of code, in whatever language you want, to check if the first code section has any errors in it.

This should keep you occupied :)

I'd suggest you make your blog a project. A blog demonstrates the written and communication skills that IT people often lack. Commit yourself to two posts a week, or even one and you'll be surprised how your readership will expand. I'm also happy to cross link my articles to yours and vice versa. As long as its relevant and not just for PageRank.

I have had a few projects in the past.

ARIA was the codename for a Actionscript3.0 library that I was creating for asset management and other utilties like a Keymapping Manager and even had plans for a Mouse Gesture system. That went out the window around my 5th commit.

I have a website which has been "coming soon" for 3 years.

I do maintain a repository of documents on Google Reader tucked in a special folder called "Project Ideas" which is where I basically braindump my project ideas. However I never look at them once they reach there.

I think my problem has always been a lack of focus and motivation. I am able to start things, but without someone to keep me on track and kick me around I'm unable to stay on the rails and I eventually lose focus and forget about it. Sad really.

What do you suggest? :)
